Forest Therapy
Human beings are inherently part of nature, and our ancestors lived in harmony with the natural world. However, as modernity has advanced, we've increasingly drifted away from these roots, immersing ourselves in an artificial, electronic environment. This disconnection has contributed to a rise in various health issues, chronic stress, and ailments globally. Forest therapy serves as a crucial bridge, reconnecting us with the natural world. Unlike hiking or typical outdoor activities, forest therapy is an embodiment practice designed to deepen our connection with nature. It involves slow, sensory engagement and can be practiced in various settings—whether in a forest, beach, park, backyard, by a window, or even in the presence of natural elements within your home.
Forest therapy is based on the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, or forest bathing, which involves intentional sensory engagement with nature. Research has demonstrated that spending time in forests can help regulate the nervous system, lower stress and cortisol levels, alleviate mental fatigue, boost immunity, and enhance mood and creativity.
In Forest Therapy, people are guided through a sequence of invitations to slow down, allowing the senses to open, and experience the environment to deepen the reciprocal relationship between participants and the forest. These slow walks in the nature are typically one- to two-kilometers long and involve moments of slow walking, sitting, lying down, touching or engaging with nature using one's senses.A typical forest therapy session lasts between 2 to 2.5 hours and covers less than a mile at a slow pace. The practice involves using your senses to interact with the natural environment and may include walking, standing, sitting, or lying down and interacting with nature and its elements.
Its not to be undertaken with the primary goal of hiking, physical exercise or educational naturalist walk.
